The Ignorant Fairies movie storyline. AIDS doctor Antonia’s husband is killed by a car. She gets depressed until she learns he had been cheating on her with a man. Following her newly born curiosity for life, she goes to see her husband’s lover, Michele, and finds a huge apartment that he shares with gay and transgendered friends, including a Turkish immigrant and a prostitute. Antonia is reluctant to tell these people of her relationship to the dead man, but needs prompting to move on to a new phase of her life.

The Ignorant Fairies (Italian: Le Fate Ignoranti; released on DVD in the US as His Secret Life) is a 2001 Italian drama film directed by Turkish-Italian film director Ferzan Özpetek and starring Margherita Buy, Stefano Accorsi, Serra Yılmaz, Andrea Renzi, Gabriel Garko, Erika Blanc, Rosaria De Cicco, Koray Candemir, Luca Calvani and Carmine Recano.

The director Ferzan Özpetek, who is himself gay, has a cameo appearance in the scene where two characters are searching gay companies to find a friend of theirs, who is sitting next to them, and viewing some photos on the Internet, where Özpetek is clearly seen.

The film won 3 Nastro d’Argento Prizes (Best Actress: Marghertia Buy – Best Actor: Stefano Accorsi – Best Producer: Tilde Corsi and Gianni Romoli). Other prizes as followb; Public’s Choice, Image-Nation Festival, Best Film, New York Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, Best Film, Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival.
