The Winner (1996)

The Winner (1996)

The Winner movie storyline. A story about a man who can’t seem to do anything but win at the tables in Vegas. This, of course, brings hustlers out of the woodwork intent on using him for financial gain. One of them is the man’s brother who, incidentally, is trying to find who it was that killed their father, while still another is a woman who has schemes of her own. Couple all of this with drug kingpins and general thugs and you have a comedy with a fresh twist on surviving in Vegas.

The Winner is a 1996 film, directed by Alex Cox. Most noted for its quirky cast (Vincent D’Onofrio, Richard Edson, Michael Madsen, Billy Bob Thornton, and Frank Whaley) and art department, including production designer Cecilia Montiel.

The film was substantially re-edited by its executive producers, Mark Damon and Rebecca De Mornay, and the original score – by Cox’s longtime collaborators Pray for Rain – replaced by a jazz score. Cox requested that his name be removed from the credits.
