Aphrodite is the eleventh studio album by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue. It was her first studio album in the three years following her 2007 release X. Aphrodite was released worldwide in July 2010, and was preceded by the release of the lead single, "All the Lovers". The four singles released from the album have all topped the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, giving Minogue a total of seven number one songs on the chart as a solo artist, having had eight number one songs overall. Minogue has also made history on the chart, becoming the first act to claim two of the top three ranks in the tally's nearly 35-year history with "Better Than Today" and "Higher" with Taio Cruz.  All Aphrodite Coverage

Kylie in Time Tunnel

1. Dear Gordon Bennett!, I recently read in a magazine that in Australia Kylie Minogue followed "The LoComotion" with a song Called "Getting Closer". Is this true? If so where can I get a copy? Could you also tell me if there's any truth in the rumour that the next British single will be the fab 'n' groovy "It's No Secret"?

A Very Concrned Kylie Fan, Paisley, Scotland.

Gordon Bennett says: It's completely true! "The Locomotion" was released in Australia in June 1987 where it promptly stuck at the number one "slot" in the Australian charts and refused to budge for eight weeks. Such was its monstrous success that the powers that "be" decided to release another song almost immediately. Hence, "Getting Closer" was released in August '87. It didn't do very well, though. Which is probably why you can't obtain it on "import" in your local record emporium. But - interesting fact ahoy! - if you were to chance upon a Swedish version of "The Locomotion" you'll find "Getting Closer" on the B-side "thereof"!

There are no plans whatsoever to release "It's No Secret". The new single, which will be out just before Christmas, will be an entirely new waxing, never heard before. (Smash Hits Magazine, 1988)

Kylie Minogue! She's Pregnant! (sorted)

Dear Gordon! I'm really desperate to know if it's true that Kylie Minogue will be making a film with David Bowie in the near future. Please can you investigate this matter immediately!!
Kylie's Number One Fan, Dublin.

Gordon Bennett! says: It's the truth! The film will be made in Australia somewhere and it will be called The Delinquents. Kylie will star alongside an as yet unnamed "Ieading man". She plays a teenage girl who runs away from home, gets into loads of hassle and gets pregnant (as one can). It's the re-make of an old American black and white movie, which in turn was based on a book called The Delinquents (which is now apparently out of print).

David Bowie will be co-producing the film and he'lI also be writing and performing the title track from the movie, but he won't actually make an appearance on screen (quite a relief really, considering what a simply "super" actor he is).

The filming starts at the beginning of March and should wind up around the end of June. And there you have it. (Smash Hits Magazine, February 1989)

Kylie thanks ABBA

Kylie Minogue was the unofficial headline act of a recent ABBA tribute show at London?s Hyde Park. The BBC, who organised the tribute, says Kylie ?stole the show? amidst other performers including Chaka Khan, Jason Donovan, Jamie Cullum, West End star Elaine Paige, as well as former-ABBA members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.

Kylie took to the stage in what the Times called ?sparkly, disco jumpsuit, Farrah Fawcett-flicked hair and blue eye shadow,? performing Super Trouper and later coming back to sing When All is Said and Done with piano accompaniment from Benny Andersson.

The performance was ?a dream come true,? Kylie told the BBC, and the only performance she?ll do for the Brits in 2009. With no UK performances planned, the 41-year-old will soon be heading to the US for a series of small, but intimate, performances of her best work.

?I?m not a nostalgic person but tonight took me back,? said Abba?s Bjorn Ulvaeus to the 36,000 who had gathered for the occasion. The concert forms part of continued ABBA-obsession that?s seen the proliferation of ABBA tribute concerts, stage show revivals of Mamma Mia! and a popular film version staring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.
