Mariah Carey to Become Author

Mariah Carey has announced plans to write a series of children's books.

Following in the footsteps of fellow diva Madonna, Carey will publish a series of illustrated children's tales following the life a bi-racial orphan girl.

Entitled Automatic Princess, the stories will be based upon her own experiences growing up as part of a mixed-race family, reports MTV.

She explained: "The way I do things, I need to be involved. I wouldn't just be like, 'Here's a concept, go run with it.'

"It's still something I really want to do, and I'm going to do, and I'm going to start getting that into production soon."

Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi set for April 12 release date.

Album guests include Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Twista and top producers Jermaine Dupri, the Neptunes and Kanye West.

Island / Def Jam recording artist Mariah Carey's eagerly anticipated new album, THE EMANCIPATION OF MIMI, is shaping up to be one of the early success stories of 2005; its first single pick, "It's Like That," written by Mariah and co-produced by ber-producer Jermaine Dupri, continues its ascent at radio.

Stars Go on TV to Help Victims

Rock troubadour Bruce Springsteen sang the prescient "My City of Ruins" and pop diva Mariah Carey gave a comeback performance of "Hero" during an internationally televised pledge drive on Friday benefiting victims of the Sept. 11 attacks on America. The unprecedented, commercial-free show, dubbed "America: A Tribute to Heroes" and simulcast live from candle-lit studios in Los Angeles and New York, was carried on at least 31 U.S. broadcast and cable networks and beamed to 156 countries around the globe.

Earlier, Mariah Carey gave a solo rendition of the popular song "Hero", marking her first public performance since suffering a mental and physical breakdown in late July. And Canadian-born songstress Celine Dion, who went on hiatus last year to devote more time to her family, emerged on the program to sing a rousing rendition of "God Bless America."

Mariah Gets Back to It

Wearing her patriotism proudly and sporting a smile, Mariah Carey made her first public appearance after her very public breakdowns back in July. The star was surprisingly up front about her ordeal. She said, "I feel good. You know, I wore myself out, like usual, working too hard. I've learned that that's not going to happen anymore."

Just weeks after a reported relapse, the singer turned actress was released from a UCLA hospital, ironically on the day of the tragic attacks last Tuesday. She faced her fans at a radio promotion last night in Los Angeles, for her first movie "Glitter", a feel good movie about a struggling singer who makes it against all odds.

She says, "A lot of people said, 'Oh it's her life story.' I am like, honey believe me it's not. But it's a good story and it's something that I think is inspiring." And Mariah hopes her movie will lighten hearts during this sad time. She says, "I try to make people happy because life is too short to not do that."

Glitter Censored in China

Just like Janet Jackson's latest release, All for You, the album Glitter has been censored in China. It was released last Monday on cassette, but the songs Loverboy and Want You have been deleted. Furthermore, the place of All My Life and Reflection has been exchanged. For the very first time, the album was released by China Recording Shanghai Company.

What's more, as China is about to be one member of WTO, the music market will be rearranged. All the music stores will be closed by the end of next month. So in the near future it will be difficult to find bootlegs in China, one of the things that made China famous (or notorious).

Mariah's Career in Jeopardy?

It is not going well with Mariah's career. The first single of her new album only reached Number 2 in the Billboard Hot 100 because Virgin discounted the single. The second single, Never Too Far, is down to Number 107, after peaking at Number 105.

The album Glitter dropped in Australia after three weeks in the list to Number 40, and in the UK the album debuted at Number 10. According to Billboard mid-week calculation the album will debut at Number 6 in the USA with 81,390 copies sold, after Jay-Z (320,568 copies), Nickelback (136,432 copies), Fabulous (116,132 copies), Alicia Keys (111,592 copies ) and POD (85,332 copies). Although these figures are only for the September 11 to September 17 period, it is unlikely Mariah will debut at Number 1.

So far, Mariah's popularity in Asia is the same as years ago. Glitter debuted at Number 1 in Japan and Never Too Far is already at Number 1 in different Asian countries for weeks. Lets hope the sales will go up once the movie hits the theaters.
