Tagline: Welcome to the terrortory.
Rogue centers on a cynical U.S. travel writer who goes on a river cruise captained by a tough Australian woman and finds himself among a group of people stranded on a tidal mud island. There, they are stalked by a giant crocodile.
Greg McLean’s first acclaimed tour de force, “Wolf Creek,” took audiences on a frightening, fact based road trip through the darkest parts of Australian Outback and the depraved human mind. Journeying home again, this time to the crocodile infested waters of Australia’s remote wetlands, the director’s wildlife boat tour is more down-under “Jaws” than “Crocodile Dundee.”
Joining a beautiful local tour guide (Radha Mitchell) and an American writer on assignment (Michael Vartan), the rest of this thriller’s food chain is composed of tourists and adventure seekers alike. Waiting in vain to be rescued on an ever-disappearing parcel of dry land, you will never guess their next move…as terror lies just beneath the surface.
Rogue is a 2007 Australian independent horror film about a group of tourists in Australia who fall prey to a giant, man-eating crocodile. Rogue was released in Australia on 8 November 2007. The film stars Michael Vartan, Radha Mitchell, Sam Worthington, John Jarratt and Mia Wasikowska and was directed, written, and produced by Greg McLean, who also directed the 2005 indie-Australian horror hit movie Wolf Creek.
It was produced by David Lightfoot and Matt Hearn and made on a budget of A$26,900,000. The film was inspired by the true story of Sweetheart, a giant saltwater crocodile that attacked boats in the late 1970s, although in real life, Sweetheart was never responsible for an attack on a human. Although critics were benevolent towards the film with a 100% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it was a commercial failure.
