Misery (1990)

Misery (1990) - Kathy Bates

Misery movie storyline. Best-selling novelist Paul Sheldon is on his way home from his Colorado hideaway after completing his latest book, when he crashes his car in a blizzard. Paul is critically injured, but is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilkes, who is also obsessed with Paul. Annie takes Paul back to her remote house in the mountains, without bothering to tell anybody.

Annie is a huge fan of the Misery novels, and she finishes reading the new one while Paul is recovering. When she discovers that Paul has killed off the heroine in her favorite novels, she becomes enraged and injures Paul’s foot severely so that he is unable to leave her house, and forces him to write a new Misery novel. A local sheriff and Paul’s agent both attempt to track down the missing author but not before Annie puts him through absolute Misery.

Misery (1990)

Misery is a 1990 American psychological thriller film based on Stephen King’s 1987 novel of the same name and starring James Caan, Kathy Bates, Lauren Bacall, Richard Farnsworth, and Frances Sternhagen about a psychotic fan who holds an author captive and forces him to write her stories.

Directed by Rob Reiner, the film received critical acclaim for Bates’s performance as the psychopathic Annie Wilkes, and Bates won the 1990 Academy Award for Best Actress for her role,[3] making Misery, as of 2017, the only Stephen King adaptation to be an Oscar-winning film.[4] The ‘hobbling’ scene in the film was ranked #12 on Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments.
